Our Team

We are a team of passionate professionals serving home-owners, businesses, farms, and diy-ers to design, install and maintain edible landscapes that nourish the body, feed the soul, and regenerate the land.

Based in Victoria, BC, our team leverages over 25 years of combined experience and education in design, organic horticulture, tree care, market gardening, farming, restoration ecology, water management, and urban development.

Since our founders (Joshua Wagler, Nick Poeta, and Marc Demontigny) came together in 2013, we have had the great privilege of teaching and working with over 2500 people who want to grow their own food in a better way. We have worked with schools, community centres, groceries stores, commercial developers, young families, retired couples, farmers, land collectives, a farm-to-table restaurant, garden clubs, a local radio station, plant nurseries, green burial service owners, and several other award winning green businesses.

We are honoured to serve the unique needs of our clients throughout Vancouver Island, the Pacific Northwest, Western Canada & beyond.

“Josh is so much more than a landscaper/designer. A very skilled listener & communicator: Josh hears the big ideas and small ideas in what you share, identifies what you value, and brings even the tiniest details into existence.

Josh is obviously very mindful about who he adds as team members. They seem to be so much more than co-workers - each with their own unique stories and skills valued and honoured amongst the team.

It is absolute magic watching the team work. I have never heard a team work so supportively & positively together.”

- A.M., Design & Install Client

  • Joshua Clae Wagler

    CO-FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Joshua Clae Wagler was born into a family of farmers, foodies, and nature lovers, and has been studying and practicing sustainable design and development for the past 18 years. As a young child, he had a transformational experience in a Cessna airplane, seeing his home-city through a family friend’s airplane window. He became absolutely fascinated by how humans live and grow. This lead him to majoring in Urban Studies at the University of Calgary, eventually travelling overseas to Pacific Asia to study the Globalization & Sustainability of Cities. With every location he studied, it became crystal clear that humans MUST find harmony with Nature, and that nothing brings people together like growing and sharing food.

After graduating, he became fascinated with the intersection between growth and food, leading him to studying ecological design, regenerative agriculture, nutrition, food forestry, mycology, permaculture, and homesteading. He learned directly from many of the worlds experts in these fields, including Javan Bernakevitch, Darren Doherty, Mark Lakeman, Rob Avis, Brandon Bauer, Gord & Ann Baird, and Peter McCoy. During this learning period, he worked as an arborist, landscaper, and stone worker, as well as served on the Board of Directors for the “Friends of Spring Ridge Commons Society”, a citizen’s group responsible for maintaining Canada’s oldest urban food forest, Spring Ridge Commons.

In 2013 he co-founded Edible Landscapes Design Ltd in Victoria BC, working to transform the City of Gardens (and beyond) into an edible ecosystem bursting with superfoods for generations to come.  In addition to being the firm’s Creative Director, Joshua is a passionate and sought-after instructor, having offered his educational services to over 2500 students since co-founding Edible Landscapes Design in 2013. He helped developed the Food Forestry curriculum for the Growing Young Farmers Society, and has been invited to speak at the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific, for the Victoria Hardy Plants Group, Victoria Seedy Saturday Speaker Series (2018, 2019, 2020), The Haven on Gabriola Island, and the Victoria Master Gardeners Association, in addition to regular online & in-person education.

  • Anna Pate

    DESIGNER & PROJECT MANAGER

Anna was born and raised in the state of Minnesota, the meeting place of four major North American biomes: aspen parklands, prairie grasslands, deciduous forest, and coniferous forest. She recalls her love and curiosity for the natural world starting at a very young age, as she spent many weekends camping and exploring with her family.

Starting in 2016, Anna spent three years doing landscape maintenance on her university campus where she found her true passion for working with plants and planting design. She graduated four years later with a Bachelor of Environmental Design, and went on to complete her Master of Landscape Architecture graduate degree in 2022. During her time in school, Anna specialized in therapy gardens, regenerative landscapes, and experimental design solutions for climate change related issues. She feels drawn to designing spaces where both people and nature can interact and heal in unison.

As a Designer & Project Manager at Edible Landscapes Design Ltd., Anna finds joy in mixing both playful and practical design styles to see clients’ dreams become a reality. Her hands-on approach to both design and project management is invaluable, as it allows her to engage directly with the landscapes she creates. By getting her hands dirty and actively participating in the installation process, Anna ensures that her designs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and resilient. This hands-on experience informs her project management and design roles, making her an integral part of the team from concept to completion.
